Inclusive Care Little Wonders Preschool reserves spaces for children with special needs because we value the competencies and capabilities of all children. We view children with special needs as having "special rights", with the right to whatever accommodations are needed to enable full participation in the group. At Little Wonders Preschool, we use a strength-based approach, meeting children where they are at, providing the tools necessary to fulfill their potential and ensure that they are valued for their contributions to the group. With a focus on building social competency, we build on children's existing skills and ensure that diverse learners are not limited in their experiences and opportunities for expression at preschool. We also informally monitor children's developmental progress in our group and will work closely with families to better understand each child's unique needs. In close consultation with family, we will make referrals and work with other professionals, when necessary, to ensure optimal progress at preschool, at home and into the future. We know that when all children are set up to succeed in our group, everyone learns and grows in miraculous ways.

Supported Child Care ProgramChild Care Service Unit (CCSU) offers the Supported Child Care Program; government funding contracts that assist early childhood programs to access support for children with special needs. If your child requires extra supports at preschool, your family, our teachers, CCSU and the Child Development Centre (CDC) will work together to develop an individual program plan and apply for funding as needed. Funding may be used for a support worker, to reduce teacher:student ratios and/or to purchase specialized equipment.

Child Development Centre (CDC)The CDC offers clinical services to children, from birth to kindergarten. The CDC is a valuable resource, offering access to a registered psychologist, speech and language pathologists, developmental therapists, occupational therapists and physiotherapists. There are no fees for services. Wait lists do apply. We will make referrals to families if we think they may benefit from CDC services. If your family does end up working with the CDC, we will join the team at your request, to help identify individual goals and strategies to enhance your child's success at preschool.
